Over the last several years, The Pre-K Priority has captured the voices of parents, educators, and those individuals on the front lines of work to bring high quality Pre-K to every 4-year-old in our community. Their stories are below.
Early Childhood Education is Everyone’s Business
While many factors help create businesses and economies that thrive, there is one particularly undervalued, critical cornerstone: quality early childhood education.
On November 16, 2022, The Pre‑K Priority hosted a panel discussion with members of the Forsyth County Early Childhood Education Task Force facilitated by Liz Bell with EdNC.
Task Force members shared findings and recommendations and discussed how The Pre‑K Priority coalition is working toward increasing access to high-quality Pre‑K for all families in Forsyth County. Topics include: advocacy, recruitment and retention of educators, and support for children and families.
In 2023, Forsyth County Commissioners and The City of Winston-Salem approved over $4M of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant funds to support increased quality standards in a model cohort of 32 Pre-K classrooms.

Today, thousands of four-year-olds across Forsyth County will embark on an exciting, new journey as they enter their Pre-K classrooms! Over the next year, they will develop socially, emotionally, and cognitively. But only a third of four-year-olds will get that experience.
